Secured by Design

Watchtower Security Solutions awarded Secured by Design status

Watchtower Security Solutions has been awarded Secured by Design (SBD) status, as well as Gold Membership status with Constructionline and Secure by Default status for cyber security.

Watchtower Security Solutions build surveillance towers to protect property and sites from criminal activity, working across the UK and in multiple countries around the world. With more than 26 years’ experience in the security industry, Watchtower Security Solutions joins SBD with the WT-1 CCTV Tower having achieved Police Preferred Specification.

Said to be an ‘all-in-one’ surveillance solution, the WT-1 CCTV Tower is designed to meet the challenges of securing valuable, remote and vulnerable sites. This latest award makes the tower the only one available that is both CE marked and SBD accredited, according to the company.

Dominic White, Managing Director at Watchtower Security Solutions, said: “My team and I are delighted with our new partnership with Secured by Design. The WT-1 CCTV Tower is hugely popular, delivering a high-quality product for clients to a number of markets, including infrastructure, civil engineering, construction, vacant property, utilities, ports, airports and energy farms.

“We are proud to be the only mobile CCTV Tower of its kind accredited by Secured by Design. Achieving awards like these is reflected in our determination to be a leader within the security sector, providing clients greater assurance about safety, quality and environmental management standards.”

SBD Development Officer Lyn Poole added: “I am pleased that Watchtower Solutions have joined Secured by Design. With the increase in developments around the UK construction sites can attract all sorts of problems such as thefts, criminal damage and anti-social behaviour. The WT-1 CCTV Tower can go a long way to deterring offenders and alerting the monitoring centre so Police can be called.”

What is Secured by Design?

SBD is part of Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (PCPI), a police owned organisation that works on behalf of the Police Service to deliver a wide range of crime prevention and demand reduction initiatives across the UK. PCPI is a not-for-profit organisation and Board Members include senior police officers from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland who control and direct the work PCPI carries out on behalf of the Police Service.

SBD plays a significant crime prevention role in the planning process to design out crime in a wide range of building sectors. It has achieved some significant success including one million homes built to SBD standards with reductions in crime of up to 87%.

SBD has many partner organisations, ranging from the Home Office, Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government and the Police Service through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers and work closely with standards and certification bodies to ensure that their publicly available standards actually meet the needs of the police and public alike.

Products must be subject to rigorous testing and additionally be fully certificated by an independent, third-party certification body accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) before being allowed to carry the SBD logo – this is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK.
