Siemens helps Reuters achieve ISO 27001

Insight Consulting, The UK-based specialist security business unit of Siemens Enterprise Communications, worked on the project at the Geneva Technical Centre (GTC). They provided assistance with scoping, gap analysis, the creation of a security improvement plan and risk assessment using CRAMM, the company’s own risk assessment software toolkit.

The Swiss centre supports all of Reuters’ major media and financial services whilst providing a failover capability for data centre operations in the UK.

Simon Taylor, Senior Consultant at Insight Consulting, said, “Our work with Reuters began by determining which key business processes and IT systems running in GTC would be included in the certification assessment. We then carried out a gap analysis to identify the key issues requiring attention. From this an initial Security Improvement Plan (SIP) was created and some priority actions begun immediately.”

He continued: “We then used our CRAMM solution to carry out a globalised risk assessment that was localised for GTC requirements. This identified key risks and recommended counter-measures, which we then added to the plan.”

Commenting on GTC’s successful certification, Chris Tovey, Reuters EMEA information Security Management Representative said, “The certification programme, combined with our ongoing One World programme governing the use of consistent and standard IT infrastructure library tools and processes, will help Reuters Operations provide world class services.”
