Q: Which sectors require me to carry an SIA licence?
A: Under the terms of the Private Security Industry Act 2001, people working in the following sectors must hold a valid SIA licence:
– Manned guarding (which includes close protection operatives, door supervisors, security guards, cash in transit workers and public space surveillance [CCTV] operatives);
– Key holding;
– And the immobilisation, restriction and removal of vehicles.
The Act also allows the SIA to license private investigators, security consultants and precognition agents, but the regulator is yet to exercise these powers.
