Extensive planning by promoter Live Nation in conjunction with the event security specialist safeguarded the events. They took place on two consecutive weekends, starting with the star-studded 46664 charity concert celebrating Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday on the final Friday of June. Hard Rock Calling (featuring the fabulous St Andrews-born singer-songwriter KT Tunstall) was held on the Saturday and Sunday immediately following, with a bill headlined by The Police (playing their final UK concert) and Eric Clapton. On the second weekend, The O2 event hosted Morrissey and Counting Crows.
Showsec’s operations director Simon Battersby was appointed head of security for all three events, with the company providing pit teams, backstage security for production areas, VIPs, VVIPs and artists.
