In the doghouse: IP video system protects hotel for pets
Avid pet lover Diane Lesveques decided to build a hotel for dogs and cats – a luxury lodging where the pets would feel at home and their owners would be pleased to leave them there.
She created Hotel Balto. Located in Quebec, Canada, it has 27 rooms, a specialty kitchen, a private pet walk area, a lounge, boutique and beauty salon.
Intercam Systems was hired to provide a security and monitoring solution.
Every class of pet catered for
In the ‘executive suites’, Axis 215 PTZ network cameras are installed, and in the standard rooms, Axis 207s. A combination of Axis 207 and 225 fixed dome cameras are used to secure the property externally.
In each room the cameras are connected to speakers and 22 inch plasma screens. Via the internal network, music and movies can be sent to each room at the pet owner’s request, and family pictures can be posted, as well. This is all treated as totally normal.
With remote access granted in the Milestone IP video software, pet owners can follow their animals’ activities in the hotel by viewing the video from the cameras.
Watching pets on holiday
When clients register their pets, they are given a user name and password and a special view is created for each one. The pet owners can choose to see their pet’s bedroom, the walk-around or the lounge to make sure their animal companions are content.
This means that from anywhere around the world, they can make sure their pets are feeling as good as the owners themselves on vacation.
