State of Physical Access Trend Report 2024

SAFE and CALM reach agreement on physical intervention training

Under the agreement, the two companies will co-operate in the training of trainers and the provision of learning materials for in-company trainers.

CALM (Crisis and Aggression, Limitation and Management) Training is a leading expert in the field of physical intervention and the management of aggression and conflict in the health, education and social care sectors, and has been working on issues relating to challenging behaviour since the early 1990s.

The company works on an international basis, and enjoys a strong presence throughout the UK and in the USA.

Enhancements to physical intervention training

Raymond Clarke – managing director of SAFE (Security and Facilities Education) – told SMT Online: “SAFE has been seeking a partner that shares our values for high quality training and customer service in an area of training that needs to be considered with great care.”

The former head of SITO added: “CALM Training has specialised in a non-aversive model of physical intervention in which there has been an independent bio-mechanical evaluation of the techniques used, and there’s an excellent historical record of safety and success.”

In conclusion, Clarke stated: “We’re delighted to have come to an agreement with an organisation that has the standing and reputation of CALM Training, and firmly believe that the relationship will radically enhance the provision and nature of physical intervention training in the security industry.”

Appropriate context for the security sector

By way of response, David Leadbetter of CALM Training explained: “We have been impressed by the presence and professionalism of SAFE, and are excited about the prospects for this partnership in what is a new sector for us.”

Leadbetter added: “Already, the knowledge and understanding that SAFE has brought to us in relation to the security sector has allowed us to place our own expertise and experience into an appropriate context for the security industry. We look forward to working with SAFE and its customers.”

In due course, SAFE and CALM will announce a series of Trainer Training events due to commence in April. New training materials for the door supervision industry, including the physical intervention module, will be published in May.
