Networking partnership forged between ASIS UK and TINYg

TINYg (short for Terrorist Information New York Group) is a not-for-profit niche group of security and related professionals dealing only with terrorist-related issues.

It was formed in 2005 by David Evans (CEO of Global Aware International) and Kevin Cassidy (the head of security for Thomson Reuters in New York).

TINYg holds meetings/events for its dedicated membership (which now extends to encompass security professionals across 130 countries) on an international basis.

The group also provides often vital information feeds and updates in relation to ongoing threats and incidents.

Its most recent gathering was at the London headquarters of Nomura on 28 October, where TINYg held its excellent 2010 Counter-Terrorism Conference and hosted speakers including Superintendent Christopher Greany (head of counter-terrorism with the City of London Police), solicitor advocate Mark Scoggins and Homeland Security expert Tomer Benito.

TINYg’s first event in Chicago runs this coming April.

Synergy between the groups

Graham Bassett – vice-chairman of ASIS in the UK – and Andy Williams (co-global head of security at Nomura, vice-chairman of TINYg and a member of on ASIS’ UK Chapter Committee) identified an exciting synergy between the respective groups and, having talked on the subject, decided that the two organisations working together and pooling ideas would be a positive move.

Strongly supported by law enforcement agencies, blue chip business and a host of excellent sponsors in both the UK and USA (among them the Metropolitan Police Service, Crisis Response, VSG, Axis Security, Pilgrims Group and Universal Security Systems), TINYg offers the ideal arena for the start of a strategic partnership between itself and ASIS.

Those initial discussions between Barratt and Williams focused on the similarity of both groups’ UK/USA connections, followed closely by their international reach.

The respective organisations will now move forward together, assisting and promoting each other’s events, etc on an exclusive basis.

All major global hubs covered

ASIS International – which was originally formed to provide a network for like-minded security practitioners in the USA – runs chapters in every major global centre, and is strongly represented in emerging markets.

UK Chapter 208 includes members from all over the UK and representatives from every sector in the security profession.

Also supporting David Evans and Kevin Cassidy as vice-chairman of TINYg is Phil Rogan, regional head of security for the Americas with Bank of America.

Mike Alexander, current chairman of ASIS Chapter 208, enthused: “This is an exciting development for ourselves and TINYg, and one that will provide various benefits to both sets of members and the security profession as a whole.”

Alexander went on to state: “It’s good to see two influential groups of security professionals who want to work together with a common goal in mind.”
