Information Security Forum launches new Advisory Board
With high profile security breaches continuing to dominate the headlines, the need to protect information has never been more critical when it comes to building trust and business success.
In response to this, the Information Security Forum (ISF) – an independent, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to investigating and resolving key issues in the realms of information security and risk management – has established a new Advisory Board.
The aim of this move is to identify and address emerging threats before they arise such that businesses can take a more proactive approach to their security planning.
The ISF has already appointed 12 industry experts to the Board. In addition to industry leading representatives from Accenture, BP, BT and Goldman Sachs, the Board also includes James Quinault CBE (director of cyber security and information assurance at the UK Cabinet Office) and former White House cyber security co-ordinator Howard Schmidt.
This high-level ‘Brains Trust’ will ultimately include up to 18 consultants, academics, IT practitioners and industry gurus, all of them prized for their individual and collective expertise in the security field.
Gathered from across the globe, the Board will focus on key topics such as: strategy, the emerging threat horizon, public stance issues, risk assessment and the associated implications for the ISF membership.
By examining all these areas in depth, the Board members will be able to influence the ISF’s research and development programme to provide members with the knowledge and tools needed to protect them from a wide range of emerging threats and challenges.
Distinguished experts brought together
“By bringing such a distinguished group of security experts together in one place, the ISF Advisory Board will help us spot significant trends and emerging threats so we can support ISF members before these threats have the chance to do any serious damage,” explained Michael de Crespigny, CEO at the ISF.
“During the appointment process, we looked at who’s really providing leadership in the security sector, and who could add the most value to this Board. The ISF already has a very strong reputation as a trusted thought leader in this vital area, and we’re fully confident that this proactive approach to identifying and addressing security threats and issues will reinforce this position while also paying dividends for all concerned.”
The Board’s first physical meeting will be at the ISF 23rd Annual World Congress, which takes place in Chicago from 4-6 November. The Board will then continue to meet on a twice-yearly basis following this inaugural gathering.
The ISF Annual World Congress, the ISF’s flagship global event, offers attendees an opportunity to discuss key security challenges and gain practical advice from peers and leading industry experts from around the world.
