New reaction to fire classification guide
Chiltern International Fire has published a guide to European reaction to fire classification documents explaining how they can be interpreted and used.
A classification document verifies that a product has demonstrated a certain level of performance when tested to European reaction to fire tests.
“Classifications are used and accepted throughout Europe and in other countries, for instance in the Far East, on a case by case basis,” said Dawn Simpkins, senior technical officer at Chiltern. “However, it is important to understand that it comes with conditions on manufacture and use of the product.”
Manufacturers must be able to provide specifiers and other interested parties with a classification document when claiming a European reaction to fire classification, she added.
A classification is not the same as the certification of a product, which is used to demonstrate a compliance with specific criteria that could be unrelated to those required by a classification document.
