Market for Manned Security Growing 6% a Year

The estimated size of the manned security market is set to reach £4bn in 2016, according to a study by Mintel.

Driven by the growth in prison and probation contracts the growth projected for both 2015 and 2016 stands at 6% per annum, the NSI-commissioned report revealed.

The key bottlenecks facing the guarding industry are weak demand and price competition leading to a drop in revenues.

“Projected growth in the manned security market is highly dependent on the public sector outsourcing climate,” said Terry Leggett, senior industrial analyst at Mintel.

“This forecast expansion is expected to be biased towards a small number of companies, masking continued difficulties for small and medium-sized businesses in the guarding sector.

“These companies can increase commercial opportunities by marketing the specialist nature of their services, building partnerships with electronic systems manufacturers and looking to develop deep customer relationships that differentiate them from larger multi-service brands.”

Specialist guarding firms can counter the competition from the facilities management sector by diversifying into other security services, leveraging intelligence gathered from integrated electronic system solutions.
