Europe’s biggest security exhibition opened its doors for its 43rd edition to showcase new features, inspirational keynotes and the very latest security and fire technology.
More than 40,000 people are expected at IFSEC, FIREX and the Protection & Management series, which took place 21-23 June at London’s ExCeL.
Here are some of the best pictures from three days across both IFSEC and FIREX International 2016.
Supersonic car
Fire safety specialists FFE have a full-sized replica of supersonic Bloodhound to FIREX. Why? Because Bloodhound uses FFE’s Talentum UV/Dual IR flame detectors.
Engineers of Tomorrow
Winners of the Engineers of Tomorrow competition were announced.
Drone Zone
A new feature at this year’s event is the Drone Zone, a dedicated space to see drones in action and find out how they can help your business.
Drones are a fast-growing market some have valued at $80 billion by 2025 and can be deployed for purposes such as surveillance, border control and fire scene inspection.
The government’s Fire and Rescue Advisor admitted that the Fire Service needs ‘radical’ reform. If you missed his presentation, don’t worry: he will be delivering the same address at the Fire Sector Summit in October. Matt Wrack of the Fire Brigades Union will also appear.
Keynotes: Colonel Tim Collins, Kate Adie and James Cracknell
The opening keynote was from Col Tim Collins, the first of three inspirational speakers at this year’s event. Walking on to a video recreation of his rousing speech to the troops before going into battle in Iraq, Collins talked about leadership and courage in the face of adversity.

The all-new Home Automation House
With 92% of installers seeing Home Automation as a potential growth area for their business, this year’s event includes a new smart home built on the exhibition floor and packed full of interesting products.
Sponsored by Yale Smart Living, the products integrated and demoed in the house – through a Control4 system – include products from Lilin, Nest, Qmotion, 2N Telecommunications and Texecom.
IFSEC and FIREX are home to more than 1,600 exhibitors showcasing the latest technical advances in video surveillance, biometrics, smart devices and perimeter control, with more than 10,0o0 products on display.
