BIM software supports delivery of security solutions to new Brussels’ office development

On a landmark new office development in central Brussels, ASSA ABLOY’s Openings Studio software helped support BIM specification when specifying and installing security and door solutions.

ASSAABLOY-BrusselsBIMSoftware-23Used as a multi-purpose office, hosting events and coworking spaces in Brussels, the Quatuor building was designed and overseen by Jaspers-Eyers Architects.

The final design included 1,800 doors of various types, with the full project utilising BIM principles for better collaboration and communication between stakeholders. For the door and security solutions, Jaspers-Eyers worked with local experts from ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions, and its Openings Studio software.

The local team of ASSA ABLOY BIM & Specification experts handled specification details and kept the central resource up-to-date and transparent, freeing up architects’ valuable time.

The Openings Studio software connected Jaspers-Eyers’ Revit designs directly with databases holding specification data for the varied door solutions which ASSA ABLOY supplied. These included Cam-Motion door closers; architectural hardware; Litto Project locks and cylinders; and ABLOY EL160 locks.

“The evolution of projects… makes this integration of configuration for objects — particularly hardware — essential,” explains Gilles Bollens at Jaspers-Eyers. “Use of the software is very intuitive. It is the only tool that enables the management of doors as a whole, in such a fluid and complete way.”

Exporting of specifications to design packages including Revit and ARCHICAD is designed to save time on projects, while replacing the requirements to update via Excel and other manual methods, which are prone to human error. Every change is logged in the software, enabling accountability and comparison of previous design ideas.

Openings Studio also functions as a transparent communication channel for all stakeholders, available through a project and beyond via secure web login or a new mobile app.
