State of Physical Access Trend Report 2024

CEM Systems’s PoE IP controller receives both power and data

The eDoor Control Module (DCM) offers PoE+ technology, an advancement the company started using on its products in 2007. It means IP devices to receive power as well as data over existing local area network (LAN) cabling.

According to a study by Venture Development Corporation, CEM was the first company to bring PoE Plus to the market. The company references this move in its newly released white paper, a document it has published to complement its latest product. PoE+ means the maximum power rating has increased from 15 to more than 30 watts.

CEM’s DCM 330 has been built with PoE technology to power readers and heavy-duty maglocks on two doors, using an Ethernet network cable.

It has been made for use with CEM’s range of AC2000 security management systems. The eDCM 330 works in conjunction with a Midspan power injector between the CEM AC2000 system server and the door and incorporates CEM technology.

The product should deliver up to two amps to enable it to power an entire door set, including access control readers, maglocks and associated items.

From Plus to Ultra PoE
Andrew Fulton, business development director for CEM Systems, said: “With the release of the eDCM 330 two-door controller, the CEM solution is now available to power third party readers, making the innovative solution accessible to the wider access control market.”

CEM’s access product has been installed at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium, Glasgow’s Victoria and Stobhill Hospitals, UK and Marina may Sands Casino, Asia.

The company said its next move will be to incorporate PoE Ultra into its products, where power delivered to a door can go up to 60 watts.
