When drafting plans for a new build-to-rent development, Becorp, Barcelona-based housing developer, opted for a modern electronic alternative to traditional keys to combine greater control with cost efficiency.
With over 1,000 homes in its new build-to-rent development, the company were aware that mechanical security would create an increased workload, with each apartment requiring five keys per cylinder.
Therefore, Becorp opted for a wireless solution – SMARTair, with mobile keys managed by the Openow app, incorporating around 3,000 battery-powered Escutcheons, 200 Knob Cylinders and 125 Wall Readers. Online system management allows security staff to check the live status of any access point, open doors remotely or lock-down in case of an emergency.
According to Becorp, residents can use their mobile keys in the Openow app, instead of using physical keys. The app enables locking by deadbolt projection. After presenting their phone, residents then move the handle upwards in order to lock the door securely. Staff can also use the app for credential management, creating virtual keys that can sent and cancelled from anywhere.
Becorp’s Xavier Casals says: “Physical key management for any large development puts severe pressure on operational costs.
“Choosing SMARTair wireless locks and mobile management via Openow helps us to minimise them.”
