Panel debate at IFSEC 2018

WATCH: Bridging the divide between physical and logical security

IFSEC International 2018 saw the debut of the Converged Security Centre.

Powered by Vidsys, the new feature hosted presentations and panel debates about the importance of, and challenges around, harmonising physical and logical security, as well as technologies that facilitate the process.

The issue has acquired great importance with security systems and other technologies increasingly connected to networks and to one another. Likewise, cybersecurity is now an unavoidable preoccupation for installers, buyers and operators of physical systems like security cameras and access control.

The industry must adapt by forging path towards better integration of physical and logical technologies and training staff in each realm to abandon silo mentalities and collaborate productively together.

With the help of Vidsys, Micro Focus and Unisys, convergence experts James Willison and Sarb Sembhi oversaw a high-level programme of education at Europe’s largest annual gathering of physical security professionals.

The first of three videos below shows a panel debate on day one of the event covering the benefits of a converged approach to security and the latest technologies bridging the physical-logical gap. Filmed in the IFSEC Keynote Arena, the video features (left to right) the panel chair Frank Gardner OBE, Vidsys CEO James Chong, Unified Security founder James Willison and Virtually Informed CISO Sarb Sembhi.

Below that is a short highlights video about the Converged Security Centre, followed by an interview with James Willison (also interviewed here), who helped coordinate the programme. Willison is an occasional contributor to IFSEC Global and recently made our list of thought leadership influencers for 2018.
