Around 50 firefighters spent four hours tackling a fire at a 15-storey tower block in Deptford, southeast London last night, rescuing people from the seventh, eighth and ninth floors of the building.
The fire damaged two flats on the seventh and eight floors and a lobby on the seventh floor. Another 10 people had evacuated the building before the fire service arrived.
A crew manager from Greenwich fire station who attended the incident said:
“Our crews did really well in tackling the fire and managed to rescue a number of adults and a child, despite the extreme heat and a lot of smoke inside the building. Around 60 residents were also evacuated from the block as a precaution.”
London Fire Brigade was called at 2240 and the incident was under control by 0250. The cause is under investigation.
