Blaze destroys four-storey apartment block

Around 40 firefighters battled a fire at an unoccupied housing block in Glasgow on Tuesday (17 August.)

The fire, which started around 4pm, caused the recently constructed four-storey building to collapse.

Residents of nearby buildings were evacuated from the area over fears the blaze may spread.

The fire was mostly under control by the evening, with fire crews still watching hotspots at 9pm.

A spokesman for Strathclyde Fire and Rescue service confirmed that an investigation into the cause has been launched by police.
