FIRE 2022 is set to return this year in a hybrid format, taking place both online and in-person at Aviva’s Headquarters in London, on 18th October 2022.
The conference is traditionally organised collaboratively by the Fire Protection Association (FPA), Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE), and the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC), however, this year, the team have also welcomed the Fire Sector Federation (FSF) as a key contributor and supporter of the event. The four parties will work together to create the event programme and discuss and debate the major challenges affecting the fire safety landscape.
The one-day conference will include presentations and workshops by expert speakers from the UK and around the world. The themes for this year include competency and a focus on legislation changes, as well as a look ahead to the future challenges faced by our sector, considering climate change, sustainability, and the introduction of new fuels.
Speaking about Fire 2022, Jonathan O’Neill OBE, Managing Director of the FPA, explained: “Following the success of last year’s conference and the emphasis on collaboration, we are pleased to come together once again with the IFE and NFCC, and to be joined by the FSF to deliver this important event. FIRE Conference provides a much-needed annual touchpoint to discuss, debate, share knowledge and most importantly, influence change to aid the necessary shift in reform that is so crucial.”
What does the Fire 2022 Conference agenda look like?
The conference will open at 09:30, as Mark Lewis, Chief Underwriting Officer – Commercial Lines Business, Aviva, welcomes delegates to the event. Covering myriad topics pertinent to fire safety professionals throughout, the day will close at 17:30 with a two hour networking drinks reception. Some of the key discussions will cover:
Plenary: Reflections on Grenfell – Kate Lamble, Senior Journalist, BBC and Peter Apps, Deputy Editor, Inside Housing
Managing fire safety in a sustainable world – Steve Hamm, CEO, IFE (a panel debate will follow)
Meeting building safety expectations: The delivery of operations, is there enough people to undertake the Fire Risk Assessment capacity and capability required by the new legislation? – Dennis Davis, FSF, Ian Leigh, NFCC & Peter Wilkinson, IFE]
Why 11 metres: what happens below? – Jonathan O’Neill, FPA, Matt Canham, NFCC
Panel debate: The Fire and Rescue Service as a responder and regulator – is this a good model? Are there conflicts of interest? Dennis Davis, FSF & Richard Fowler, NFCC
Steve Hamm, IFE Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to be returning for a third year running and to now have the Fire Sector Federation on board as a key partner. FIRE Conference is growing year on year and has become a key date in the diary for sector leaders and stakeholders to come together to share learnings and discuss and debate major challenges that are affecting us all as fire professionals.”
Michael Harper, Fire Sector Federation Chair, commented: “We are delighted and proud to join the team behind the conference, which is the foremost event in the calendar for the fire safety sector. In this era of fundamental change and reform it is more important than ever to deliver this platform for the professional engagement and debate needed to drive progress.”
Attendance at the event will award seven IFE CPD hours for delegates that attend the full day online or in person.
