Five people died and at least 50 were injured trying to escape a fire in a block of flats in Paris yesterday.
Four victims died jumping out of windows, while one was burned alive, according to the Daily Mail.
The flats, in Menilmontant, did not have any fire escape routes or smoke alarms, the paper said.
Those who were able to leave their apartments when the blaze broke out around 3 am were trapped on the overcrowded stairwell.
Around 300 firefighters battled the fire overnight before it spread to neighbouring blocks, in what is a densely populated area of the city.
