Around 400 people were forced to leave their homes over fears that nearby gas cylinders could explode in a fire.
Around 40 firefighters from Wiltshire Fire and Rescue service was called to a blaze in Amesbury shortly before 11.30 pm on 23 June, where they found several sheds and outbuildings well alight.
On arrival, crews were advised that the sheds contained gas cylinders, which led to a 200 metre cordon being put into place.
Wiltshire police and a team from the British Red Cross fire and emergency support service helped to move residents to the nearby Stonehenge Sports Centre, where they stayed until about 9 am the next day.
“It has been confirmed that five cylinders were involved in the incident,” a spokesman said.
The cylinders included one argon shield [a mixture of argon, carbon dioxide and oxygen], and one ‘possible’ acetylene, the service said.
The fire is now being investigated by Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service and Wiltshire police.
