New advice surgeries at International Firex

[

Visitors to the Fire Protection Association’s lounge at International Firex  next month will be able to drop in for free advice at a series of consultants’ surgeries – as well as attend seminars on a range of current fire safety topics.

The challenges for residential care homes will be addressed by Adam Kiziak, who will help visitors deal with issues such as mobility impaired residents and limited staff cover overnight (1.00 – 2.30pm, 11 May)

Neil Cheyne, meanwhile, will be providing advice on all aspects of fire risk assessments, including competence, training, management, and preventive and protective measures (12.00 – 1.00pm, 12 May).

Questions on using fire engineering as an alternative way of meeting the functional requirements of building regulations will be fielded by Peter Wilkinson (12.00 – 1.00pm, 13 May).

An introduction to the standard that takes a holistic and ‘whole-life’ approach to fire safety in buildings – BS 9999 – will be given by Neil Cheyne (11.00 -11.30, 12 May.) The seminar is aimed at all those with responsibility for the design, inspection and management of new and existing buildings.

Other seminar topics include updates in fire detection, alarms and emergency lighting; the new edition of the code of practice for fire prevention on construction sites; managing the threat of arson; and innovation in detection and suppression in high risk environments.
