IFSEC Interviews: IoT in fire safety – What does the future hold?

IFSEC Insider speaks to Andy Speake, National Technical Manager at Aico and Chair of the Fire Industry Association’s (FIA) Internet of Things (IoT) Forum.

Andy explains where the fire industry is with IoT adoption and the challenges of the technology in such a heavily regulated and standardised industry.

The FIA’s IoT Forum is designed to put the subject under greater scrutiny and explore the benefits of wireless technology in fire systems, while ensuring it is done safely. As Andy explains, it’s one of the “largest attended groups within the FIA”, demonstrating how the topic is a central discussion within the industry at present.

The interview also covers the cyber security concerns that come with IoT product and technology adoption, with Andy explaining the Forum’s partnership with the British Standards Institute (BSI) to better tackle this challenge.
