Fire Door Safety Week is upon us and we still need your help to ensure it is a success.
The campaign, now in its sixth year, reached over 19 million people in 2017, delivering messages on the importance of fire doors in saving lives and protecting property, and landlords’ legal responsibilities for managing fire door safety. We want this year to reach more people and have more impact than ever.
The underlying theme in 2018 is ‘Fire Door Five: Shutting the door on fire and smoke’. The aim is to continue to educate about the critical role that fire doors play in delaying the spread of smoke and fire, encourage best practice in specification and installation and halt the legacy of neglect in maintaining and inspecting fire doors.
Activities currently being organised include:
CPD training sessions for fire professionals and building owners
A series of fire door awareness seminars and webinars, hosted by the BWF and other industry contributors
Local fire and rescue service roadshows for local businesses
Open days, factory tours and free fire safety sessions for local businesses
Fire door sales promotions and special offers
A series of five films focusing on various aspects of fire door safety (watch the first film – ‘We’ve been here before’ – below) keep an eye on our #FireDoorSafetyWeek on twitter and firedoorsafetyweek.co.uk for the rest of the series
A full schedule of radio broadcasts and press coverage plus of course a huge focus on social media using the hash tag #FireDoorSafetyWeek#FireDoorFive
How to get involved
While we will be working centrally to get Fire Door Safety Week and the issues around fire and smoke prevention on the national news agenda, we hope that BWF members will get involved, spreading the word among customers, the general public and other key stakeholders. Here are some suggestions on how you can make the most of Fire Door Safety week.
Five ways you can support Fire Door Safety Week:
Share our resources: like, retweet and share on social media, send targeted information to your network, write a blog, put up one of our posters
Use your local press contacts, newsletters: to ensure your support is published and the core Fire Door Safety Week messages reach your community
Check the fire door nearest you: use the five step check and if you find a problem report it
Whatever you do, make sure you tell us so we can amplify everything. The ultimate success of Fire Door Safety Week is from the fantastic backing received from supporters, the creativity of the community and the unwavering focus on making a positive difference.
We hope this will continue again with this years’ campaign helping to successfully close the door on fire and smoke.
Further resources and events will be added throughout the summer and BWF is happy to support the promotion of any event. Just email details or questions to [email protected].
