Secure-ring door safety adopted by North Wales police

Secure-Ring, distributed by Cardea Solutions, incorporates a solid steel door restrictor, security chain and a ring designed to slip over a door handle. The restrictor then enables the security chain to be used at three lengths, allowing householders to screen visitors to the door, and ward off intruders, the company said.

It was awarded a Secured by Design standard, testing for which involves using a ‘medicine ball’ test that subjects security devices to the repeated force of a 30kg medicine ball – nearly twice the weight of a police battering ram.

Flintshire Community safety Partnership, a body of key agencies including the police, local authority, public, housing and voluntary organisations, is trialling Secure-Ring with Flintshire properties that have been identified as being ‘susceptible’ to crime or incidents.

PC Hazel Goss MBE, crime prevention, community safety and architect liaison officer for the North Wales Police, said: “As well as being the only device of its kind to achieve Secured by Design status, its design makes it easy to fit, easy to use and therefore appealing for particularly vulnerable groups including the elderly and children. That’s important as if homeowners don’t like using a product, they won’t. I’m really pleased to be piloting the product in Flintshire and I’ve no doubt the results will be excellent.”

According to Cardea Solutions, the exclusive UK distributor for Secure-Ring, the Flintshire trial reflects the already strong demand for the product.
