IFSEC & FIREX 2023

Editor’s viewpoint: Don’t miss this year’s show highlights at IFSEC and FIREX 2023

With just under a week to go until this year’s IFSEC and FIREX exhibitions, I thought I’d share a few particular highlights with IFSEC Insider readers that I’m looking forward to!

For those unaware, the series of shows that includes IFSEC and FIREX will take place at London’s ExCeL between 16-18 May. Also part of the series is Facilities Show and Safety and Health Expo, with visitors regularly visiting two, three or all four events during their visit, given the common crossover in job roles.

The LPCB Attack Testing Zone is always a show favourite and will once again return for 2023!

With four shows in one, six content theatres and hundreds of exhibitors, there’s plenty to do and see over the three days then. To help add a little bit of focus, I thought I’d share five must-see event highlights for security and fire professionals that I’ve spotted in the show previews so far…

Looking forward to something else? Feel free to comment below and let us know!

IFSEC – Exclusive insight from analysts, Martyn’s Law conference and future facing topics

  1. The new Distributor Network creates a whole new dynamic for the show this year. 11 of the UK’s leading security distributors will be on hand to meet with, where they’ll be able to showcase and guide on the latest technology, alongside their vendor partners!
  2. IFSEC and IFSEC Insider’s research partner, Omdia, will be presenting on the Tuesday at the new Tech Talks Theatre. I’m particularly looking forward to hearing their analysts’ exclusive insight into trends in the video surveillance and intruder detection markets.
  3. The Converged Security Centre is always a firm favourite in my IFSEC plans. Expert consultants, alongside Advancis and its technology partners, will present on the benefits of open, integrated security management platforms. Find out how a converged security operation centre is at the beating heart of any successful organisational resilience strategy.
  4. Hear from global security influencer Lee Odess on how Big Tech is impacting on the wider physical access control market at 11:30 on 17 May. How will major market disruptors affect the sector – and what can security vendors and professionals do to respond?
  5. There’s no doubt about it, Martyn’s Law is set to significantly impact the UK security market. Draft legislation was released after much anticipation last week, but how can those businesses and venues in scope begin to prepare? Hear the latest at IFSEC’s exclusive Martyn’s Law Conference on Wednesday 17 May, featuring special guest speaker, Figen Murray, the driving force behind the new legislation.

I’d also thoroughly recommend heading over the other side of the halls to visit the Facilities Show, where the Smart Buildings Immersive Experience returns. Immerse yourself in a fully equipped, life-size smart building environment and see how interactive technology can bring together facilities management, security, safety, and wellbeing in one place.

FIREX – Virtual Reality training, keeping on top of legislation and resident experiences of the building safety crisis

  1. Fire safety measures – the resident’s view. Kicking off the Expertise & Guidance Theatre at 11AM on Tuesday 16 May, attendees will hear directly from residents on their experiences of the building safety crisis. How can fire professionals support?
  2. Is our reliance on lithium-ion batteries safe or sustainable? The exponential rise in e-vehicles has created a new fire safety risk, so what can be done? Hear from Matt Humby on Wednesday morning as he dives into the challenges ahead.
  3. FIREX-FIAStand-2022The ASFP’s Passive Fire Experience – the leading passive fire protection association will be bringing its virtual reality simulator for visitors to experience solutions in an all-new environment. Yes, you read that correctly – VR is coming to FIREX!
  4. Building Safety Act – knowing your responsibilities. On Thursday at 11:45AM, expert lawyers will offer crucial legal advice to industry professionals on the new responsibilities the Building Safety Act 2022 places on responsible persons and fire risk assessors.
  5. Catching up with the key associations – As always, the opportunity to network and share ideas are vital to the evolution of the fire industry. You can do that with all the major fire safety associations at FIREX – the FIA Networking Bar and FPA InfoZone are always visitor favourites!

And don’t forget, FIREX has taken the decision to fully commit to supporting and promoting third-party approvals. All companies exhibiting with relevant products need to hold recognised certifications, so you know you’re in a competent and accredited environment at the show.

It goes without saying, of course, that the shows also offer a fantastic opportunity to network with all your peers and supplier partners, and bring together the team in an immersive and educational environment.

Finally, don’t forget to come and say hello to the IFSEC Insider team on stand FI2650! Check out our recent brand update, sign up to the newsletters or suggest some ideas for articles that you’d like to see on the site in the coming months.
