All India police radio officers meet gets underway

Mullapally Ramachandran, Minister of State for Home, inaugurated the 28th All India Police Radio Officers Conference 2011. In his inaugural address the minister emphasized that the police communication organizations should play a focused role to address various homeland security requirements through converged and collaborative means.

The conference is being organized by Directorate of Coordination Police Wireless, MHA. The theme of the Conference is Convergence, Collaboration and Corroboration. Achievements of Directorate of Coordination Police Wireless (DCPW) since its inception in the year 1946 include providing network facilities through a satellite based network POLNET to all police organizations, crypto coverage facilities for classified nature of communications, catering to emergency communication requirements of police forces, framing of technical standards in police communication organizations.

P K Singhal, Director, DCPW, in his welcome address outlined the significant role being played by police communication organizations and their augmentation by integrating captive networks with public networks for enhancing their scope of utility to support police particularly during crisis times.

About eighty delegates from various Police communications organizations both central and state/UT are participating in the Conference. Dr Gulshan Rai, an outstanding personality in IT sector addressed the gathering and desired that police communications may have facelift in the present technological advancements by making their networks smarter.

This conference, apart from discussing on the broader issues of police communication organizations, also has technical presentations and discussions involving eminent personalities from Ministry of Communications & IT, Ministry of Defence, Department of Information Technology, Department of Science & Technology and State and Central police organisations. An exhibition showcasing the latest technology and indigenously developed products of government organizations and telecom industry is also being organized along with the conference. About 21 organisations from the telecom industry are participating in the exhibition.
