‘Need for checks on Indian pvt security firms’
Suresh Kumar, joint secretary (police modernization), ministry of home affairs, said establishing minimum standards of operations for private security professionals is one of the key issues to be addressed by the private security industry in India, reported news daily The Times of India.
Speaking at the 21st International Institute of Security and Safety Management annual conference in Panaji recently, he said the industry has reached a stage of maturity as there is regulation and some form of licensing under the PSAR Act 2005.
But also reaching the crossroads, the industry has to take stock and review whether any further changes in legislation and enforcement mechanism are needed.
He was hopeful issues like regulation, an effective regulatory body, reviewing, evaluating, adopting a code of conduct for private security personnel, minimum standards for operations and for recruitment and selection criteria of personnel would be addressed as well.
