Whitepaper: Enhancing security, resilience and efficiency across a range of industries

WATCH: Engineers of Tomorrow returns to IFSEC and FIREX 2019. Register now for the apprentice competition

Both security and fire apprentices are invited to enter the 21st edition of the Engineers of Tomorrow competition.

It is an opportunity for ambitious young apprentices to represent themselves and their company at Europe’s leading security event.

The competition aims to help tackle the growing engineering skills gap and attract and retain the next generation of security and fire systems installers. Last year we received over 100 entrants, a number we hope to exceed as the competition continues to grow.

Apprentices will compete in regional heats held at selected colleges across the UK. If you are interested in entering the competition, or wish to nominate a colleague, please email [email protected].

Finalists will then go on in pairs to showcase their skills in a 3-hour installation challenge, where they must install and commission an intruder or fire alarm system, which will include tracking and amending system faults on the latest technology.

This year will be the first time a fire and security competition will launch at WorldSkills UK LIVE

The top performing teams will be announced at IFSEC 2019. These teams and their employers are then invited to the Security & Fire Excellence Awards, taking place 20th November 2019 at the London Hilton, Park Lane. Cash prizes will be awarded to overall winners (£1,000), runners-up (£500) and for third place (£300).

This year – 2019 – will be the first time a fire and security competition will launch at WorldSkills UK LIVE helping us to break down barriers in recruiting new young talent into the industry. In 2020, EoT will take winners to WorldSkills UK, providing an additional platform for the apprentices to accelerate their careers.

Stakeholders of Engineers of Tomorrow IFSEC & FIREX are CSL, NSI, SSAIB and Skills for Security. The competition promotes an undervalued discipline, boosts the confidence and profile of talented apprentices and promotes their employers.

In conjunction with Apprentices for Fire and Security (A4FS), which helps place young apprentices in the fire and security sectors, the initiative was set up to address a serious skills shortage in the fire and security sectors.
