Experienced engineers on fast track to NVQs

The NVQ Level 2 award in Fire Security and Emergency Alarm Systems is now available from SITO in a format designed for busy, experienced engineers with limited time for training and study.
New legislation such as the ACPO policy and the EN Standard for Intruder Alarms will place greater emphasis on qualifications for those in the system sector. This new route to Level 2 is more accessible to installers with a completion time of only 12-15 weeks. Candidates must not be following any other training programme leading to an NVQ.
They have to have:

  • A minimum of three years experience working in intruder alarm installations;
  • Experience on a variety of installations;
  • Employers’ support (for confirming competence and employment record, allowing access to records and sites for assessment purposes).

SITO says there are no lengthy records to complete … "just brief descriptions of tasks selected for assessment purposes, evidence notes and an outline of employment history".
Costs: Up to two employees, GB pound 300 each; 3-5 employees GB pound 275; 6-plus employees, GB pound 235. Costs include assessment and certification.
