NG Bailey’s business development manager, James Hill, is delivering a presentation on internet of things (IoT) security challenges at IFSEC International 2015.
Speaking to IFSEC Global Hill discusses smart cities and his forthcoming presentation below.
NG Bailey is an engineering, IT and facilities services business whose projects include developments at Kings Cross and the BBC.
IFSEC Global: Would you class London as a leading safe city?
James Hill: I would class London as a leading safe city, because as one of the most important cities on the planet, our security is paramount to our success. We led the way with the 2012 Olympic Games and continue to do so.
IG: How can London’s authorities make the capital even safer?
JH: A more cohesive approach between Security and IT professionals.
IG: What are the biggest challenges posed by IoT – increasingly now labelled the ‘internet of everything’ – to security and public safety in our cities?
JH: The data we can harvest. We can save energy and become more efficient whilst keeping people safe. It is the biggest challenge our industry has ever faced.
And attacks via cyber. Network security is now just as important as physical security. They are no longer mutually exclusive though, and now go hand in hand.
IG: What will be the most profound changes wrought by IoT in how cities operate over the next five years?
JH: The introduction of the ‘internet of things’ into the security arena.
IG: Who will your talks at IFSEC be of interest to?
JH: You care about intelligence. Big Data, and the Internet of Things.
These are no longer just buzz words – they are here and they are now. How we harness them is vitally important if we are to stay safe and secure.
