Installers urged to share views on alarm standard
The British Security Industry Association (BSIA) said the upgrade of technical specifications, new codes of practice and the publication of EN50131-1:2006 means the standard, which was last changed in 2004, needs to be revised.
“Due to the extent of revision required in order to harmonise all these documents, it is imperative that installers review the current standards that they are working to and input their views on how they can be amended,” said the BSIA’s technical and membership services director, Alex Carmichael.
Along with other trade associations and inspectorates, the BSIA will be looking for feedback from its members before sending recommendations to the BSI. Installers not connected to an official body can send their comments directly to the BSI.
Carmichael said, “It is expected that the revision of PD6662 will be complete at the end of the year and an implementation date will be imposed to allow for the dual-running of PD6662:2004 and the revised PD6662:2008.
“This will allow manufacturers the time to redesign, test and debug any new products and get them into the supply chain.
“Installers should try to keep abreast of the changes as they come in – this is where membership of a trade association comes into its own.”
PD6662 is seen as a ‘hybrid’ standard covering intruder and hold up alarm systems, encompassing EN50131-1, DD243 and relevant parts of BS4737.
Comments regarding the revision of PD6662 can be sent to the BSI project manager of committee GW1/2 at:
BSI,
389 Chiswick High Road,
London,
W4 4AL.
