Intruder alarms dominate ASC Business Club

Sponsored by CSL DualCom in conjunction with Honeywell Security and Southern Monitoring Services, the event takes place on Thursday 12 February at Bury House, 33 Bury Street, St James’s in London.

Following registration and an introduction from the ASC’s chairman Roy Sutherland and CSL DualCom’s Dennis Judd, the first presentation (at 10.15 am) is entitled ‘Control and Indicating Equipment (CIE) and Detection Equipment’.

Honeywell’s Tony Makosinski – head of marketing (UK and Ireland) and EMEA operational marketing controller – is scheduled to examine wirefree versus hardwire, the latest detection technology, dual technology detection and on board remote signalling.

Makosinski joined Chubb Locks and Safes back in 1968, and subsequently held sales and marketing positions with Cass, ADT and (later) ASH Technology Group (ATG), where he launched radio alarm concepts into the European market.

When ATG was acquired by Scantronic, Makosinski was appointed marketing director. Following further appointments with the BSIA, Silvermines and Bewator, he rejoined Scantronic until joining Honeywell in 2007. At the present time, Makosinski is the UK representative on both the Eurolarm SC1 and SC3 Committees.

Alarm Receiving Centres

Next up (from 11.00 am through until 11.45 am) is a presentation on Alarm Receiving Centres (ARCs) courtesy of Steve Kimber, managing director at Southern Monitoring Services (and, indeed, the Southern Monitoring Group of Companies) and current chairman of the Fire and Security Association.

Steve will discuss available networks, confirmation and filtering, signal processing and procedures, dual signalling systems and the use of Internet Protocol (IP) set-ups.

Kimber has been in the industry for 34 years, and served for over 25 years on industry committees organised and run by the BSIA, the BSI, the NSI, the SSAIB and both the ACPO and IPCRes.

Discussion about remote signalling systems

At 11.45 am, ‘Remote Signalling Systems’ are the subject of Simon Banks’ presentation. Banks is the commercial director with CSL Dualcom. He’ll offer a market overview, examine current issues (21 CN and IP) and look at dual signalling systems.

Initially with Scantronic, Banks has over 20 years’ experience in the industry. He became a founding director of CSL DualCom in 1996 with the aim of promoting dual signalling in the UK. Simon represents the industry and the BSIA on BSI TC1 and the ATS Signalling Working Group. Banks also contributes to IPCRes.

Open Forum and Q&A

Then, at 12.30, there’s an Open Forum and Q&A chaired by Dennis Judd. A celebrated industry figure, Judd is head of corporate relations at CSL DualCom and has specific responsibility for close liaison with the insurance sector. He joined CSL DualCom after 22 years in senior marketing roles in the security industry with Modern Alarms, Reliance Security and, of course, ADT Fire and Security.

Judd has represented ADT on BSI, BSIA, NSI and Skills for Security Committees and Working Groups.

Closing the proceedings, Roy Sutherland is to offer an update on ASC events for 2009 and there’ll be drinks and a buffet luncheon.

Further Business Clubs for next year take place on Wednesday 22 April, Thursday 16 July 2009 and on Thursday 10 September. In all cases, the venue is the same: 33 Bury Street, London SW1Y 4AX.
