It’s estimated that 6.8 million people are lone workers. That statistic represents 22% of the 31.2 million UK working population.
Lone workers are defined as those who work by themselves without close or direct supervision.
Given the rise in lone working trends, IFSEC International has devised a brand new section for the 2012 exhibition aimed squarely at educating lone workers and their employers from multiple vertical sectors – including healthcare, retail, education, the utilities, facilities, local authorities and housing associations – about the merits and benefits of the latest approved lone worker protection systems.
The new lone worker protection feature promises to deliver an incredible and unique visitor experience by allowing attendees the opportunity to meet with the leading suppliers of lone worker equipment, witness live demonstrations of current solutions and attend free educational seminars promoting the latest thinking in lone worker Best Practice.
Assessment of all present and future risks
Commenting on the new feature area, Brian Sims – group content editor for United Business Media Live Division’s Security Portfolio – said: “Although employers are always legally obliged to safeguard the Health and Safety of their staff, at present there are no specific duties to protect lone workers.”
Sims continued: “However, it’s also true to say that, under the same general rules, companies must be assessing all of the risks involved in working alone, identifying any potential hazards and introducing measures designed to control them.”
Taking place from 14-17 May at the NEC in Birmingham, IFSEC International 2012 will be specifically designed to afford security installers, manufacturers, distributors, IT integrators, end users and consultants with the very best platform possible for keeping up-to-date with the now ever-changing developments across the global security industry.
The lone worker protection feature will be based in the extensive exhibition at IFSEC International, which will be organised into the following categories: Integrated Security, IP and Network Solutions, Access Control, CCTV and Surveillance, Intruder Alarms, Public Security (including Physical Security and Perimeter Protection), Security Solutions and Fire Solutions.
