Optex Europe makes sure security’s Down to Earth

Down to Earth specialises in recycling organic waste for use as soil conditioners but, of late, the company’s Kirton-in-Lindsey site has experienced problems with attempted break-ins.

The security guarding and barrier systems in place at the entrance to the industrial estate where the company’s located were found to be ineffective.

With this in mind, director Gary Millson contacted Dean Bolton of Eyewatch Security and asked him to design and install a security system aimed at safeguarding the thousands of pounds of machinery and diesel stored on site.

“Although the front entrance was covered by the security officers, the other sides of our site were open to intruders,” explained Millson. “A number of times, people had tried to steal diesel and our next concern was that the machinery itself might be taken.”

Bolton duly specified a system that comprises 20 VX402 BoundaryGard detectors covering the ramp up to the site, the interior and exterior of the warehouse where the waste is sorted, the diesel tank and the weighbridge.

No attempted break-ins or false alarms

Two BX80N BoundaryGard detectors have been positioned to protect the front and rear of the shed where the plant machinery is stored.

The system has been in place since August, with alarms relayed to Eyewatch’s headquarters in Scunthorpe. Barring one incident where youngsters were scared off by Eyewatch security officers, there have not been any attempted break-ins or any false alarms.

Millson continued: “The detectors are clearly working as a deterrent as we are experiencing far fewer attempted break-ins. We’re extremely satisfied with the performance of the detectors, and are now in the process of expanding the system to include cameras.”

Paul Nicholas, the sales manager for Optex Europe, stated that the BoundaryGard VX detectors provide reliable external protection before burglars can get inside a premises.

“The BX80N creates a multi-layered, horizontal barrier that detects intruders and sounds the alarm before they actually break-in. Just one BX-80N can protect an area up to 24 m across.”
