LPS 1175 (‘Requirements and testing procedures for the LPCB approval and listing of intruder resistant building components, strongpoints, security enclosures and free-standing barriers’) specifies eight levels of security, with resist times against attack from one minute (opportunist attack) up to 20 minutes (highly professional targeted attack).
Paul Griffin, the manufacturing manager at HERAS, said: “We’re pleased to see that all the months of hard work have come to fruition, and we’re now approved to Security Rating 1 of the LPS 1175 standard. It was a pleasure to work closely with the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB), and I found all their help to be invaluable.”
Richard Flint, the LPCB’s physical security certification scheme manager, commented: “The LPCB is delighted to issue this approval. It not only reflects Heras’ ability to engineer the most secure railing system tested to date, but also demonstrates the versatility of LPS 1175 for use in the assessment and specification of a wide range of products and systems.”
Flint explained that the scope of security solutions approved to LPS 1175 continues to expand, in turn meeting the needs of specifiers who are facing an increasingly diverse range of security issues.
“To our knowledge, no other publicly available standard offers such versatility,” concluded Flint.

Purpose behind the LPS 1175 standard
The purpose of the LPS 1175 standard is to evaluate the resistance to unauthorised access offered by various physical security products.
The standard specifies eight grades of security according to the tools and time likely to be used by an intruder.
Specifiers can therefore select products/systems that provide levels of security matching their needs.
