Whitepaper: Enhancing security, resilience and efficiency across a range of industries

Edinburgh students rely on Payne’s security

Based in West Edinburgh, SCE is one of the largest further education establishments in Scotland, with around 17,000 students.

In terms of access control, the college’s management team originally provided cardboard ID cards but then decided to switch to PVC cards, preferring the format’s versatility, professional look and speed of creation.

Printers, software and cards

Payne Security was approached eight years ago to satisfy the college’s security needs, and SCE continues to rely on the company today for printers, software, cards and accessories.

Currently, the college uses a Javelin C30i printer, which is pretty much ideal for excellent colour reproduction and long-lasting lamination, as well as Payne Security’s IDPro software.

Initially, Payne Security created suitable templates in co-operation with SCE, but thereafter trained staff in how to use the software that maintains those templates.

Adaptation to on-card requirements

“The IDPro package is particularly easy to work with in terms of creating new cards or updating design templates, ensuring we can quickly adapt to new on-card requirements,” confirmed James Marr, the head of student services at Stevenson College.

Around 14,000 cards – as well as 8,000 lanyards and badge holders – are supplied per annum. The system relies on prompt delivery, something SCE found recently when new cards were required for enrolment at short notice.

“We needed new stock by 9.30 am next day or we were facing a real crisis!” affirmed Marr. “Thankfully, Payne Security managed to send the cards to us within that timeframe.”

Payne Security is a leader in the fields of brand protection, document authentication and personal ID solutions, providing end user customers with an extended range of products designed to beat counterfeiters and prove personal identity.
