Inspired by how Dogs Dry themselves, the AXIS Q61-E Network Camera Wins Design Award

AXIS Q61-E Network Camera Series wins Good Design Award 2015 in JapanThe Q61-E PTZ dome network Camera Series of Axis Communications has won a Good Design Award from the Japanese Institute of Design Promotion.

Judges were suitably impressed by the Q61-E’s dome geometry, which allows operators to see about 20 degrees higher than its horizon.

Developed with the help of feedback from end users and partners the AXIS Q61-E Series is also easy to re-paint and 45% smaller than earlier versions.

Inspired by how dogs shake themselves dry the camera also has a speed dry function, whereby it vibrates in order to shake off raindrops. It also has slanted contours to deflect water.

And a non-stick heated silicone ring has been added to prevent ice accumulation in freezing environments, meaning its specs boast a temperature range plunging as low as -50 degrees celsius.

The camera also detects and digitally filters fog for clearer video footage.

“With the AXIS Q61-E Series we have broken with conventional designs and introduced an entirely new dome geometry offering effective video surveillance of objects located above the camera horizon,” says Erik Frännlid, director of product management at Axis Communications.

“We also took a look at nature and a dog shaking off water inspired our Speed Dry function that quickly removes water drops from the dome glass. This prestigious design award win underlines our commitment to continuously innovate as we strive to provide our customers with smarter solutions.”

Also known as G Mark Award the Good Design Award was first created in 1957.
