Hochiki Europe has introduced afire detection range which complies with the strict Safety Integrity Level 2 (SIL2) requirements to the Indian Market.
The Safety Integrity Level 2 (SIL2) rating system is independently evaluated and applies to an entire system to reduce risk and improve safety through a formalised and quantifiable methodology.
The SIL2 compliant fire detection range includes smoke sensors, multi-sensors, multi-heat sensors, manual call points, sounders and sounder beacons and a range of input/output modules.
The newly launched range is best suited to industries which require life safety systems owing to the hazardous environments such as the oil, gas, petrochemical, manufacturing, transport and process control industries.
The growing use of electrical, electronic or programmable electronic systems to carry out safety functions have already been found to be the culprits in a number of major accidents was the underlying idea that lead Hochiki Europe to develop this range.
Extensive guidelines on fire safety were recently added by the Indian Government in the National Building Code of India which acted as the driving force behind development of specialist products from Hochiki Europe.
The SIL2 actually measures safety system performance and calculates the probability of failure on demand which indicates the odds of a system failing to respond during an emergency event. There are a total of four integrity levels associated with SIL ranging from 1-4.
If a product or system gets the highest rating of 4, it indicates the least possible chances of failure during emergency and vice-versa. Another factor worth noting here is that with an increase in the SIL level, it is usually seen that a system’s complexity also rises.
The SIL rating system is quickly gaining foothold in the oil and gas markets across the world from Australia to the Middle East, North Africa and in the UK. The rail transport sector is also relying on the strict SIL2 for the fire safety needs in their projects.
Rohit Harjani, country manager at Hochiki Europe, said: “Thanks to the versatility of SIL certified products, businesses can rest assured that their safety systems are compliant in a whole range of sectors. We work extensively within the oil and gas markets, as well as the transport industries, which is why we have developed a SIL2 range.
“The investment we have made in obtaining this approval and extending the product range to India is an indication of our commitment to helping the fire safety market comply with the most stringent regulations.”
