State of Physical Access Trend Report 2024

Nominate Your #SongsAboutSecurity

“I’ve got the key, I’ve got the secret.” Not a bizarre statement of my having stolen your access credentials, but a lyric from the Urban Cookie Collective’s 1993 House track.

This September, we’re running a competition to find the best “Songs About Security.” Avid readers of this website may remember that we used to run a weekly feature called Songs About Security on Info4security. Now, we want to build the ultimate Spotify playlist with your help.

How do I take part?

Simply register for this website (or login if you’ve already registered) and leave a comment at the bottom of this post saying the name of your nomination. To leave a comment, you have to click Post message.

Once you’ve left your message below, let the world know about your nomination. Tweet it now by clicking this link.

We’re looking for songs that you can link directly — or tenuously — to security subject-matter. To get you started, we’ve already added five songs to the playlist which you can listen to now:

  • Warren G ft. Nate Dogg — Regulate: A track dedicated to all those regulators out there, such as the Security Industry Authority.
  • Urban Cookie Collective — The Key, The Secret: A song about access credentials
  • The Police — Every Breath You Take: I’ll be watching you on my CCTV system
  • Jayne’s Addiction — Been Caught Stealing: Thanks to our incredible security systems
  • Travis — The Beautiful Occupation: Because security is a beautiful occupation!

Vote for the best

Then we want you to use the thumbs up and thumbs down symbols on the comments to vote for your favourites. The nominations that have the highest overall rating will make it into our top 10 Songs About Security.

The 10 best tracks will also get a free IFSEC Global t-shirt, with our awesome rock’n’roll-themed London Calling artwork on it.

Great move, Rob! A Songs About Security playlist is a top idea. As you (and some of the security fraternity) well know, although my musical tastes are eclectic, I do favour one brand in particular… Heavy Metal. On that basis, here are some suggestions for you. I’ve dropped in a few ‘classic 1980s pop numbers’ (as Alan Partridge might say) for good measure… Iron Maiden – The Prisoner (this one speaks for itself, I think…) Whitesnake – Still of the Night (on the basis that a good deal of criminality happens under cover of darkness) Queensryche – Eyes of a… Read more »

All good suggestions, I’m taking this one as the frontrunner (based on song name not musical quality necessarily)

Where do you come up with this stuff, Rob? Anyway, here’s a youtube playlist I put together a while back from the original incarnation of Songs About Security. Some have been deleted now but you might be able to cherry pick a few from here:
