Pune to Deploy IP–based CCTV Cameras at Railway Station

Pune_Junction_stationboardThe Pune government is planning to install IP-based CCTV cameras at a railway station for better security and round-the-clock monitoring.

The measure to upgrade the surveillance is part of the Integrated Security System project, which has been proposed for 202 important stations in the entire railway network for real-time security updates.

As part of the system, the administration has planned to install Internet Protocol (IP)-based CCTV cameras, which would have more features and clear vision, at the city railway station.

The IP-based system, which will enable monitoring of CCTV footage from the officers’ desks, has been recently installed at Miraj station.

As many as 15 CCTV cameras have been installed on the station premises. The officers in Pune can also monitor the footage captured by the cameras at Miraj. Officials said a similar system would become functional in Pune within two months.

At present, 30 CCTVs are being used to monitor the Pune station premises. Officials in the administration said they were assessing how many cameras have to be installed as part of the new system.

The officials said the security of the passengers and their belongings was a prime concern and the administration was constantly taking steps to upgrade surveillance at prime stations. (Source: TOI)

Most cameras would be installed at Shivajinagar station – one of the prominent stations along the Pune-Lonavla route. The administration is operating local trains to Lonavla and Talegaon for the last two years.
