Security Institute Appoints Ex-Chartered Institute of Marketing Director as MD

David ThorpThe Security Institute has appointed David Thorp as its first managing director.

Thorp was previously director of research and professional development at The Chartered Institute of Marketing, where he remains a Fellow.

Thorp, who holds a BA in Law and an MSc in Training and Performance Management, is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Member of the British Institute of Learning and Development.

“The appointment of a managing director is a key and strategic decision for the board of directors and represents the significant growth and development plans of the Institute,” said Security Institute Chairman Emma Shaw.

“I am absolutely delighted to welcome David to the organisation. 2014 is our 15-year anniversary and during this time the Institute has grown from strength to strength.

“We have a proud history and a bright future and this is the perfect time to invest in our head office capability. David will work alongside our existing team and our volunteer board of directors to ensure we continue to deliver the objectives of the organisation and to continue to support our members.

“Our AGM on 27 March will give people an early opportunity to meet David.”

Commenting on his new role, Thorp said: “I feel both delighted and privileged to have been appointed managing director of the Security Institute. I was drawn by the challenge of delivering the ambitious growth plans and I am looking forward to developing and influencing the shape of our sector, as well as supporting our members in their professional career development.

“The Security Institute has many dedicated volunteer security professionals and I relish the opportunity to work with them to help develop its future.”
