150 flee as Falmouth Docks burn – VIDEO

Falmouth was evacuated of 150 people last week as firefighters fought to bring a fire at Falmouth Docks, Cornwall, under control.

Around 60 firefighters were called to the docks just after 8 am on 17 June to tackle a blaze that started in a fabrication workshop.

A 24-hour 300 metre exclusion zone was set up because of acetylene cylinders that were at risk of exploding. Falmouth Hotel held evacuees, some of which had fled a block of student flats near the docks.

The fire was scaled down at 6.30 pm that night, and extinguished overnight. The evacuation order lifted at 2 pm the next day, after crews had remained on the scene to keep an eye on the cooling cylinders.
