Apprentices reap rewards

All the apprentices on the SESCO and WELCO programmes were congratulated for meeting this important milestone in their Modern Apprenticeship programme.
SESCO (South East Security Co-operative) the first of the UK’s five co-operatives, held its event at Waltham Forest College. The following apprentices were awarded with their NVQ Level 2 towards the Modern Apprenticeship Award:
Darren Clegg (Alert Systems); Stephen Cook and Philip Parker (Capstan Security); Scott Connolly (Active Security); Daryl Preston (Krypto Security); David Williams (ADT) and Jay Wyatt (Secom).

Industry figures give their backing
Two apprentices: Andrew Rich (Abel Alarms) and Charlie Salamone (Intruder Security Services) achieved all the assessment and portfolio elements of NVQ Level 3 towards the Modern Apprenticeship award.
The following achieved all the elements of NVQ Level 3 and have been nominated for the Modern Apprenticeship Award: Ian Clarke and Dominic Quigley (Capstan Security); Gareth Cobb and Barry Latarche (Active Security Group).
The evening heard addresses by a panel of leading industry figures, including: Dr David Holt, Chief Executive, NACOSS; George Mullaly, Chairman, SESCO; Noel Sargent, National Training Programmes, SITO and Tim Geddes, Chairman, Security Systems Section, BSIA, who said that before the "SESCO dream or vision" the installation companies were working in opposition with each other. The companies got together and worked out a training scheme to try to end the skills shortage and help stem the poaching of trained engineers.
“SESCO is the pioneer of the training. It’s driven by a hard working team and they’ve backed a winner."
WELCO (West London Co-operative) held their awards evening at Uxbridge College where company representatives, parents and college staff heard Eddie Clarke, MD of GCD Security Ltd and the WELCO Chairman, congratulate the seven award winners. They were: Paul Munteanu, Mark James and James Devine (Banham Alarms); Darren Evans and Richard Edwicker (Goldfield Security); Mark Sargent and Steven Davis (GCD Security).
He said the training initiative deserved the industry’s fullest support. He thanked London East Training and Enterprise Council for their funding and continued support for the co-operative nationally and WELCO and Cooper Security Ltd for sponsoring the presentation evening.
Uxbridge College was represented by Steven Ely, Don Grimston and Ian Howell.
Noel Sargent, National Training Programmes, SITO said he was delighted with the achievements of the apprentices and looked forward to other groups reaching the same milestone. He hoped these achievements would encourage more employers to take part in the co-operative and ease the continuing skills shortage.
The co-operatives schemes now have 170 apprentices training throughout the country. There are 102 installation companies taking part and training is carried out by four colleges and one private training provider.
