Arson alert web pilot launched in Sheffield
Arson risks in an area of Sheffield can now be reported through a new web page as part of a pilot scheme between the fire service and police.
Local residents have been invited to log on to a new
‘Arson Alert’ section of the South Yorkshire Police website to flag up potential problems such as areas that frequently see fly-tipping and bin fires.
The Woodhouse Safer Neighbourhood Team is trialling the scheme, but could be rolled out to other districts if successful.
It makes up part of a partnership between South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue’s (SYFR) arson intervention team and Woodhouse, which sees an arson officer based at Woodhouse police station.
SYFR’s arson reduction officer Steve Vinson said: “We carry out regular arson patrols where our teams offer safety advice to local residents, and this web development is another way in which people can get in touch with us if they have concerns about arson.
“The scheme is in its early stages but hopefully it will help to further reduce antisocial behaviour-related fires.”
