Arup unveils security consultancy

Boasting a 17-strong team of consultants headed up by director John Haddon, the all-new Arup Security Consulting can advise in-house security managers on threat and risk assessments, security planning, operational procedures, contingency planning, the location and fit-out of ‘critical asset’ areas, electronic security engineering and specific measures relating to the physical protection of buildings.
Surveys and audits are also covered, so too guarding against the terrorist threat.
The consultancy – operating out of offices in central London and New York – is also able to advise end users on the major points to be considered when selecting a manned guarding contractor.
Speaking exclusively to SMT about Arup’s latest venture, John Haddon said: "Security is being taken more and more seriously now because building owners and operators realise the increasing threats posed by human misconduct. No building can ever be 100% secure, but security managers can mitigate the risks by good design and planning."

A major aim of Arup’s strategy is to limit the need for an overt security presence, integrating passive measures into a given building’s design. "The design should provide a balance between architecture, landscaping, operational and electronic measures," stressed Haddon.
