ASIS prepares to address Act

Hot-on-the-heels of the JSIC/BSIA-led Way Forward Group (‘JSIC points The Way Forward’, SMT, November 2001, p11), UK Chapter 208 of the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) has joined forces with The Security Institute and the International Security Management Association to represent the views of senior security professionals and corporate security managers when it comes to the setting up of the new Security Industry Authority.
In an official statement to ASIS members, Chapter 208 chairman Bill Wylie said: "It is the Group’s intention to put across a position based not on any partisan interests, but upon that which is best for the furtherance of the highest standards of probity, training and professionalism in UK security."

ASIS members are responsible for a large part of the security ‘spend’ in the UK, of course. With this very much in mind, Wylie is keen that ASIS’ UK members should respond to all those questions asked of the industry by the Private Security Industry Act Implementation Team concerning non-criminal record licensing criteria – and whether or not the personal licensing scheme should be decoupled from the voluntary approved contractors’ scheme.
