Birks awarded divisional commander’s commendation for stadium security prowess
The commendation will be presented to Birks by West Yorkshire Police’s chief superintendent Ian Whitehouse at an event in March to celebrate his services to the community of North West Leeds while working for G4S.
Specifically, Birks has been commended for his work alongside the North West Leeds division of West Yorkshire Police as Headingley Carnegie Stadium’s safety officer.
In this role, he undertook a range of responsibilities encompassing the planning, implementation and event day operation of both domestic and international fixtures.
This duty required a close working relationship with the police operations team to ensure the safest environment possible for both the venue’s staff and supporters.
Strong working relationship with West Yorkshire Police
Mark Hamilton, managing director of G4S Events, commented: “At G4S, we seek to operate to the highest industry standards so it’s greatly satisfying when an employee is recognised in this manner.”
He added: “We have long enjoyed a strong working relationship with the West Yorkshire Police and look forward to working with them on many more projects in the future.”
In conclusion, Hamilton explained: “While we are always sorry to see talented employees like Brian leave, we can all be proud of what he has achieved here and we wish him well in his future career.”
Keith Gilert, chief superintendent at West Yorkshire Police, said: “It has been a pleasure working with Brian at Headingley Carnegie Stadium. He developed a deep understanding with our officers and always maintained the high standards we expect when it comes to securing such a venue. This commendation is testament to the hard work of Brian, his colleagues at G4S and West Yorkshire Police.”
As stated, the presentation will be held at Headingley Carnegie Cricket Ground on Wednesday 2 March.
G4S Events secures Family Excellence Award for Burnley FC
Employees of G4S Events have been commended as part of a Football League Family Excellence Award bestowed upon Burnley Football Club for the 2010-2011 season.
The award, which was based on a range of match day criteria, reflects the efforts of G4S staff who provide stewarding for all Burnley FC’s home matches in The Championship.
In the Football League’s report, G4S staff were commended for being both friendly and helpful, with one family stating that the actions and attitude of G4S stewards during the game “…really emphasised the safety of the area we sat in.”
Mark Hamilton commented: “G4S has enjoyed a long and successful relationship with Burnley FC, and we’re very proud to have played a part in enabling the club to achieve this award.”
Hamilton added: “At G4S we believe that families should be free to watch live sporting events in a safe and enjoyable atmosphere, and this is the ethos we encourage among all our staff.”
The Football League Family Excellence Awards was established four years ago. Awards are made following an assessment by two ‘home’ and ‘away’ families during visits to the stadium.
The awards also take into account the measures taken by the clubs to ensure a safe, engaging and memorable family experience covering every aspect of that experience (including car park stewarding, stadium atmosphere and refreshments).
