BSIA appoints Council members

The British Security Industry Association (BSIA) has unveiled details of its new Council members for the period spanning July 2002-July 2003 – at the same time announcing that five of the 12 membership Sections now have new chairmen at the helm.
The Council, which comprises up to 46 annually-elected members and meets twice each year, has the authority to appoint or reject members, create new Sections and make Bye-Laws. In addition to the BSIA chairman Tim Geddes and vice chairman David Cowden, the 2002-2003 Council members are:

  • Access Control Section: Phillip Gater of TDSi (chairman), Jim Moran (Chubb Electronic Security), Keith Whitelock (Group 4 Technology).
  • Cash and Property Marking Section: Digby Ram (IBP International) and Chris Taylor (Selectamark).
  • CCTV Section: Adam Wiseberg of RemGuard (chairman), Gary Bingham (Baxall), Una Riley (Euro Security Systems), David Stones (Secure One) and Paul Wong (Norbain SD).

  • Information Destruction Section: Mike Bowles of Hays Secure Destruction (chairman), Rob Bridle (Lombard Recycling) and Lloyd Williams (Shredall EM).
  • Manned Security Services Section: Tony O’Neill of Initial Security (chairman), Peter Black (Group 4 Total Security), Lt Colonel Richard Evans (The Watch Security), Ian Fothergill (UK Guarding Services), Francis Peck (The Corps) and Derek Smith of Legion Security.
  • Physical Security Equipment Section: Tim Strawson of The Bradbury Group (chairman), Jim Brown (Selectamark) and Graham Midgley (of The Ritzenthaler Company).

  • Police and Public Services Section: Michael Lee of Constant Security Services (chairman) and Peter Black (Group 4 Total Security).
  • Security Equipment Manufacturers’ Section: Julie Kenny of Pyronix (chairman), Stephen Eggleton (Alarmcom) and Andrew Knights (Smokecloak).
  • Transport Section: Jeff Anderson of Securicor Cash Services (chairman) and Derek Gee (of Security Plus).

  • The Export Council: Andrew Knights of Smoke-cloak (chairman) and Amanda Hall of Baxall.
  • Security Systems Section: Steve Kimber of Southern Monitoring Services (chairman), Patrick Allen (Abel Alarm Company), Ashley Carmichael (Specialised Security Systems), Mike Hawker (Britannic Security Systems), Ray Le Monde (Active Security Group) and John Russell (Chubb Electronic Security).

Initial Security managing director Tony O’Neill’s chairmanship of the Manned Security Section follows the completion of a highly successful two-year term served by Jane Fraser MBE of Fraser Security Services. Tony is a great advocate of training (see this month’s Guarding Watch on page 63) and its importance in enabling the delivery of a quality product to clients.
A firm believer in quality assurance, Investors in People and (like Tony O’Neill) training, Southern Monitoring Services’ managing director Steve Kimber takes on the important role of chairman of the Security Systems Section. Steve began his career in the industry 28 years ago, and currently assumes the responsibility for a company turnover in excess of GB pound 12 million.
Perhaps the most crucial appointment of all is that of Michael Lee to head up the new Police and Public Services Section. A former police officer, Michael will be looking to address the private sector-police service debate.
