Animations are used to show the stages of the signalling process and there is stage-by-stage training on how to install RedCARE, RedCARE GSM and RedCARE ISDN.
The internet site includes a troubleshooting guide on solving installation problems and answers frequently asked questions on products.
Importantly, it includes an online test session: installers who score more than 75 per cent qualify for a certificate approved for inclusion in an NVQ assessment.
Complementing the regional "face-to-face training programmes, the five-part course also works as a quick reference point on product and installation updates and as a refresher course. Bearing in mind that, under the new European Standards, everyone installing electronic alarm systems must have completed a training course, installers are encouraged to work systematically through the five parts and take the test at the end. This entitles them to a RedCARE certificate that is approved by the Security Systems & Alarm Inspection Board (SSAIB) for inclusion in an NVQ assessment.
Alison Arney, BT RedCARE Marketing Manager, said the initiative was designed to complement face-to-face training, not replace it. The ACPO policy had resulted in more installers wanting to qualify to fit monitored systems.
