CCTV: Woman jailed after driving with man on bonnet

A woman has been jailed after CCTV showed her driving ‘at speed'(video below) with a pedestrian desperately clinging onto her car bonnet.

Suzanne Gilchrist was attempting to evade a security officer when she struck Stuart Morris, a passer-by in Falkirk last June.

Mr Morris is then seen on several CCTV cameras holding on to the bonnet as Ms Gilchrist weaves through the streets of the town before eventually coming to a stop at a set of lights.

Mr Morris was taken to hospital with spinal bruising and bruising to his legs and fingers, but no major injuries. The court was told that he told officers “he thought he was a goner.”

The incident began when ms Gilchrist tried to get away from a security officer who wanted to speak with her regarding an alleged theft of aftershave from a Boots store.

Lorne Stevenson attempted to open her driver’s door and take her keys from the ignition as Ms Gilchrist drove away at speed.

Mr Morris was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time as Ms Gilchrist hit him and continued driving through the town.

She pleaded guilty to assaulting Mr Morris, failing to give way at junctions, and trying to throw him from her car to the danger of his life on 12 June last year.

Her plea of not guilty to stealing the aftershave was accepted.

She was sentenced to four years and three months in jail at Stirling Sherriff Court.
